How To Paint Plaguebearers...

In this tutorial I will share my method for painting Chaos Daemons Plaguebearers of Nurgle. This technique is different from the traditional look of these models. I wanted the skin to look really pallid and muted rather than a bright slimy green that you often see. The model was first primed black and then given a basecoat of Rakarth Flesh (GW Base). Once this was dry I applied a fairly heavy wash of Agrax Earthshade (GW Shade) Next I gave the model a drybrush of 1 part Rakarth Flesh to 2 parts Ogryn Camo (GW Layer). This drybrush was slightly heavier than a traditional dry brush that only catches the edges of a model as I wanted all the raised areas of flesh to be drybrushed. Another drybrush was then applied. This time adding some White Scar (GW Layer) to the previous mix. This amount varied from model to model as I wanted to have slight variations in the overall skin tone. Once this is dry I applied a heavy glaze of an equal mix of Agrax Earthshade and Coelia Greenshade over the entire model. This mix was thinned with an equal amount of water which is slightly heavier than my usual glaze mixes. What is a Glaze? A glaze is similar to applying a wash except it’s purpose is not to darken recesses but tint the overall colour of an area and therefore glazes should be applied carefully over an entire area. Glazes are usually thinner than washes and are applied in multiple layers. I glazed 3-4 layers of Druchii Violet (GW Shade) around the belly areas and did the same with Carroburg Crimson (GW Shade) in small areas around boils and pustules. That’s pretty much it for the skin. The gore areas...

SDE: Angry Bear & Some Monsters...

The Angry Bear is the last of the heroes from Super Dungeon Explore that I have painted. He’s slightly different to the other heroes as he’s not an outright playable character but something that the Deep Root Druid can transform into. These models are the first of the monsters in the box that I have painted. As there’s so many monsters I don’t plan on giving these a great paint job, just one that is satisfactory an makes them easily recognisable on the board. Lastly I created a video on My YouTube Channel that showcases all my hero miniatures from the...

Brass Scorpion of Khorne

This is my converted Brass Scorpion of Khorne. I originally made this model some time ago out of parts from two defiler kits and it was quite bland so over the last week or so I decided to give it a makeover. This included completely repainting the model as well as adding extra parts such as the shoulder pads and exhausts from the Forgefiend kit, The dragon skull parts from the Warhammer Giant and various little cogs made from old watch parts which I bought off eBay. As I was working on the model I thought it was getting a bit of a steampunk look about it so decided the cogs would help boost that feel further. The model was painting with the aptly named Brass Scorpion (Citadel Layer) which was given a wash of Agrax Earthshde (Citadel Shade) and then drybrushed with Runelord Brass (Citadel Layer) and Golden Griffon (Citadel Dry). The red was a Khorne Red mixed with Abaddon Black. I really like a very deep red for my Khorne armour so this colour I have pre mixed as Citadel doesn’t do a red that dark in their...

SDE – A Ranger, A Rogue and A Sorceress...

I have finished painting the final three character models for Super Dungeon Explore (well technically the Angry Bear counts and he’s yet to be painted). These models are The Glimmerdusk Ranger, the Riftling Rogue and The Hexcast Sorceress. I particularly enjoyed painting the Hexcast Sorceress as I got to use a couple of colours I have very rarely used before. Here skirt for example was painted with Warlock Purple from Vallejo Game Color. Again I used a non metallic gold technique for some areas on these models and I am happy with the result. In hindsight I maybe should have used a black background for the Ranger whilst taking photos as her white areas don’t really show up well on here. With these models though I find the eye is usually drawn to the face and...

Spartan Themed Space Marine Army...

In this post I will showcase some models (and include a video of the whole army) for my Spartan Themed Space Marines. The reason I’m doing this is because I really need to have a clear out and this army I’m afraid will be sold in the near future as I just don’t use them any more. Whilst I do like this army I think it deserves to be getting some game time and a good home rather than just collect dust on my shelves. So onward with the photos. These are old photos from when the army were first painted a couple of years ago so I apologise for the poor quality of these. This army will be going up on eBay within the next couple of weeks so please head over and like my Facebook page if you’re interested as all details will be posted on there.
