Space Marine Primaris Librarian...

So since Warhammer 40,000 8th edition was released I’ve been painting quite a lot of Primaris Marines and Death Guard. I haven’t got around to sharing it all with you on this blog (I post a lot of stuff on the Bitzbox instagram page) so I thought I’d start with my favourite miniature of the bunch, my Primaris...

Inquisitor Greyfax

My favourite miniature from The Gathering Storm Triumvirate of the Imperium boxed set is easily Inquisitor Greyfax. I wanted to try a NMM gold and silver for her armour which despite not being perfect has came out satisfactory. I will keep practicing it for sure. I also wanted something special for her base so I scratched built this one for her which I am really happy with. Below is a video showing off how I made it....

Lord Commander Eidolon

It’s been so long since my last update and for that I apologise. My gaming room has been completely renovated so I’ve not had no lightbox set up for a good couple of months. Now it’s set back up and I also have a new camera too. My first update is Lord Commander Eidolon of the Emperors Children. The new camera picks up on the detail a lot better than my old one which means I’ll have to up my painting game a little. I’m not 100% happy with his face or some of the NMM gold but overall I really like how this miniature came...

Roboute Guilliman

I have almost all of the primarch models from Forgeworld but until now have never painted any of them. I decided to start with Roboute Guilliman as I really love his model and I wanted to try a marble effect on the base. Some of the colour transition on the base got lost to the lighting when I took these photos. I’m hoping to get a better camera oin the near...

Emerald Aces Deredeo Dreadnought...

So I thought I would add some much needed firepower to my Emeral Aces Space Marine force in the shape of this Deredeo Dreadnought from Forgeworld. I found this model really nice to put together. He only has a really basic colour scheme with a few checkered patterns added to his knee caps and missile pod. He has some slight battle damage on him to show that he is a relic of the chapter. He also doesn’t have the usual gloss...

Emerald Aces Space Marine Army Showcase...

This is a short video showing off my Emerald Aces Space Marine army. I may decide to add some more to these in the future but for now I am leaving them here.

Painted Limited Edition Space Marine Captains...

The Space Marine captains for my competition have been fully painted and are ready to be shipped to the lucky winners later this week. This blog post shows off the miniatures with pictures and a video! Hopefully the winners like them! I really enjoyed painting these miniatures and will certainly plan to give more away in the future. Below is a video showcasing the miniatures and I talk a little bit about...

I have drawn out the winners for the Limited Edition Space Marine Captains. You can find out who the lucky winners were in the video...

Win Limited Edition Space Marine Captains...

I’m doing my first ever give away! This give away is for three of the limited edition space marine captains from Games Workshop. Simply watch the video below for details on how to...

Imperial Fist Breacher Siege Squad...

Another squad from my small Heresy Era Imperial Fists Army. This is a breacher squad. It uses a mix of the Forgeworld Breacher Squad Marines and some Mark III armoured marines with boarding shields. The armour on these models is painted to look really dirty and scratched. It is no means my best paint work but they are tabletop...

Horus Heresy Imperial Fists Devastators

It’s been a while since I last painted anything for my Heresy Era Imperial Fists but I’ve had these guys sitting on my desk for a while now and I finally decided to paint them up. I love the fact that in the Horus Heresy Legion army list you can take heavy weapon squads with a every member being able to carry a heavy weapon. I decided to go with missile launchers as this load out is cheap points wise and still quite deadly. This squad is less battle damaged than most of my other Imperial Fist models from this army. I decided to paint them this way to represent that they spend more time on the back line firing from afar rather then getting stuck into the fight like the rest of the...

Emerald Aces Devastator Squad

I’ve had these guys painted up for a while now but never got round to taking photos of them. They act as some fire support for my Emerald Aces Space Marine chapter. I’ve always favoured the 4 missile launcher load out for Devastators for the...

Creating A Heat Tint or Steel Bluing Effect...

In this tutorial I will show you how to create a heat tint on weapons. This is also known as ‘bluing’ which can often be found on exhausts. This is caused by extreme heat and I’ve recently seen in used more and more on certain cannons and melta weapons in the 40K universe. The first example of this may be on the Forgeworld Legion Glaive model. I decided to give this effect a go and create a little tutorial on how I achieved this type of effect on an Imperial Knight Thermal Cannon. Firstly I painted the cannon with Leadbelcher (GW Layer). Once this was dry I airbrushed Brass Monkey (Badger Minitaire) onto half of the cannon. You could also paint this on and any gold or light brass colour will work just as well. Apologies on glare coming off the tutorial images due to over exposure. I fixed this for the final result image. In the next step I airbrushed Ghost Tint Purple (Badger Minitaire) making sure I left some of the gold near the inner edge showing. Some areas were cleaned up by painting this colour on as due to the thin nature of this paint it acts like a wash so doesn’t always build up in the raised areas. Again you could paint this step using a thin purple paint or shade. I then painted on some Ghost Tint Blue (Badger Minitaire) at the very edges. Again any thinned down blue or blue wash can be used. You could also airbrush this but I chose to use a brush as I wanted this colour to be very subtle. Lastly I drybrushed some Abaddon Black (GW Base) on the edge of the gun and deepened all the recesses with Nuln Oil (GW...

Imperial Knight Paladin: Caballinus...

It’s been a while since I posted anything for two reasons. Firstly is that I’ve set up a new office space/painting studio in my home that has taken up a lot of time over the last week. The second reason is that The Imperial Knights were release, and I bought two! I’ve been working solely on the first Imperial Knight who I can now happily say is finally completed. I made this one into a Knight Paladin and I cannot wait to run him alongside my Emerald Aces Space Marine army (yes I’ve not forgotten them, you’ll see more of them on the blog over the coming weeks). He was painted with several layers of Minitaire’s Antique Gold. The green was achieved with using Minitaire’s Ghost Tint: Plasma Fluid over the original gold colour which turned it into a really nice looking metallic green colour. I decided to call this Imperial Knight, Caballinus to tie in with the horse head motifs on his armour. I very rarely use transfers on any models but I liked the ones in this set and they add something extra to the...

How To Paint Parchment & Purity Seals...

In this tutorial I will show you how I paint parchment and purity seals for my Space Marines. In this example I will be using the new plastic chaplain model. We start with a basecoat of Rakarth Flesh (GW Base). This may require a couple of thin coats to get a smooth finish. Once this is dry we apply a wash of Agrax Earthshade (GW Shade) Top Tip: Sometimes the wash pools up at the bottom, to avoid this let the model dry upside down. This allows any of the wash that pools up to be in the recesses. We begin our highlights by layering Rakarth Flesh. Ensure to leave some of the wash in the recesses. Our final highlight is a 60/40 mix of White Scar and Rakarth flesh. This is also layered with some of the previous highlight left showing. Finally I painted the round wax parts with a basecoat of Khorne Red (GW Base), Washed with Drakenhof Nightshade (GW Shade) and highlighted with Evil Sunz Scarlett (GW...
